The Light in the Darkness exhibition was created to illuminate the story of Sir Humphry Davy and his Flame Safety Lamp which saved the lives of miners. ​​This exhibition aims to encourage children to consider a career in the sciences and celebrate the contribution Davy made to the mining industry. Key elements of interest include the interactive desk, which has a number of easy to use interactives that help to explain the science behind the lamp and how Davy came to his final design. The giant lamp showcase, which is home to the earliest lamp the museum owns of Davy’s inscribed with his signature. Finally, the evolution wall, which displays some of the museums most valuable lamps and looks at the evolution of the lamp throughout the years.
