Dover Castle stands on the corner of the country, watching over the seas towards France. The Under Siege exhibition was designed to tell the story of the siege of 1216. ​Working at Mather & Co, I supported the client team, including English Heritage historian Paul Pattison, to determine the stories that would be told across the site. I worked with designers to determine the visitor journey and suitable interpretation methods to build a dynamic and engaging exhibition that runs through three key areas: the medieval tunnels, Georgian casemates and some external areas.  The challenge with castles is that their history spans across thousands of years, with parts of the building being modified over the years. The exhibition needed to tell the story of a single event, while explaining the complex layering the changes and modifications throughout its time.
